Finding the right cover size for a publisher can often be confusing. That's why we made this quick and easy overview for all eBook authors out there.
Preparing your eBook cover for publishing also includes resizing your cover for the different stores and publishers. Here's a simple list of eBook cover sizes. Of course all of these publishers might also accept other eBook cover sizes but these are the most common or recommended sizes from their websites. A resolution of 72 dpi (dots per inch) is best for eBooks and usually the file size should not exceed 2 MB.
General eBook Cover Specifications (for the web)
If you're planning to publish your eBook on your own website or without a publisher your best choice is to go with a 1563px x 2500px cover.
"Requirements for the size of your cover art have an ideal height/width ratio of 1.6, this means a minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side. For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side."
Barnes & Noble's minimum height for a cover image is 1200 - 2000 pixels.
"Cover images (...) should be vertical rectangle-shaped, not squares, and must be a minimum width of 1,400 pixels. A recommended size is approximately 1,600 pixels wide by 2,400 pixels tall."
"Please ensure that the image you upload is saved as a JPG or PNG file. For best results, your image should be 900 DPI and no larger than 1 MB."
Cover for Apple iBooks should be at least 1400 pixels wide.
"If you're planning to sell your book on Google Play, provide your book content in both ePub and PDF format to give your readers more viewing options. However, only one format is required."
"For best results, give us a JPEG at 1600x2400. But really, all we need is a tall rectangle. We'll accept most standard image formats, and resize whatever you upload to meet the requirements of the sales channels you choose."
"You will need to upload a full size cover image. 612 x 792 pixels (8.5” x 11”, 72 DPI) is preferred to avoid blurriness."
"Cover image: At least 1400px wide, portrait or vertical rectangle-shaped artwork (no squares) and we recommend a height/width ratio of 1.6 (1400px wide x 2100px high)."
